Emily Heighway
Gary is often asked by owners if their horses can remain at Westcourt to either further their work, be prepared to compete, or to be sold on if required. Having handled this on an 'on-demand' basis, Gary has now decided to make it a more permanent arrangement by allocating a section of Westcourt to a young rider who he feels has the necessary talent, skills and compassion for horses in a way that complements his work with horses, Emily Heighway.
When asked about her work with Gary, Emily says "I am thrilled with the opportunity of continuing my work with Gary and his team. Not only can we show that ex-racers can go on and have a successful career in other disciplines but we can help owners who, for whatever reason, are unable to progress further with any type of horse or pony. Gary deals with all the behavioural issues and I can then carry on the work to school the horse on further."
Horses have been her life since a very young age. After having ponies as a very young girl, at the age of 10, Emily became the owner of a very traumatised 14.2hh Arab X. With patience, dedication and understanding, Emily produced one of the most talented rides in the area, winning practically everything they entered in all three major disciplines. They became firm members of the Wiltshire county mounted games team for several years competing both in the UK and Europe.
16.1hh 7yr old bay Thoroughbred gelding
Professionally re-trained and now competing successfully over the last 6 months. Very honest and showing true potential to excel in any discipline. With three good paces and an impressive, bold jump, he is forward-going, yet 110% safe with a calm and collected attitude.
Definitely a 'push-button' horse in the making and a very sensible, intelligent horse who will suit a knowledgeable home to fulfil a fun and exciting career. Good confirmation, clean boned and with good feet and ready to compete now!
16hh 4yr old Canadian bred Thoroughbred gelding
Amazing all-rounder with a big, bold jump and 3 big, expressive paces. Seriously easy to do in every way, very quiet to handle and ride, snaffle-mouthed. Currently hacked by an 8yr old girl. Never refuses and fast against the clock.
This super chap has been professionally produced and now needs a 5* home to fulfil his amazing potential. Real potential for 5yr old championships 2010. Will take the right person to the top of their game having been placed on many occasions at Unaffiliated this season.

Now competing in both BSJA and British Eventing, Emily has a 4yr old ex-racer who came to her to be produced and re-trained, however she has recently decided he is to stay long-term with her as she has high hopes for him. The mare with whom she has had most recent success has just had a colt foal by Brujo and therefore Emily is concentrating on the horses brought to her via Gary.
Her own showjumper unfortunately has recently been diagnosed with Navicular disease so is now a part-time competitor.
Emily is also a freelance riding instructor and also rides many clients' horses from cheeky ponies to competition horses. Among her clients are very different riders from the very novice to the very experienced, young children to the more mature rider. Emily maintains that she thoroughly enjoys teaching and finds it incredibly rewarding to see an owner delighted by the progress their horse is making.
Details of horses Emily is working with will be featured and updated on this website. For further information on these horses or to discuss how we may help you with your horse, please call Emily or Suze at Westcourt or e-mail us.
